Northern Afleet’s versatile 4-year-old son War Story was pre-entered in two different race for the Nov. 4-5 Breeders’ Cup at Santa Anita Park.
His owners Loooch Racing Stables et al and trainer Mario Serey, Jr. made the $6 Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) on Nov. 5 as their first choice, with the Nov. 4 Dirt Mile (G1) as a second option.
Neither race drew more than are allowed to run, so War Story is assured of a starting spot in either case.
The multiple Graded Stakes-placed chestnut was on the Kentucky Derby (G1) trail last year, placing in all three Triple Crown preps at Fair Grounds. Off the first half of 2016, he was most recently second, beaten just a head, in the $150,000 Pennsylvania Derby Champion S.
Northern Afleet is the sire of 2011 Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) winner Amazombie, one of five champions, six millionaires and more than 70 stakes winners by the Taylor Made stallion.
The decision on which race War Story will run in will come on Oct. 31, when official post positions for the Breeders’ Cup will be drawn.
