Unbridled’s Song filly victorious in debut

First-time starter In Step, a $1 million yearling auction purchase by Unbridled’s Song, scored a stylish victory in a maiden special weight [VIDEO] on Feb. 20 at Gulfstream Park. The 3-year-old chestnut filly won going 6 ½ furlongs over a fast main track.

In Step used a good stalking trip, just off the pace in second, to set up her winning stretch move. It took a determined effort, but the Kentucky-bred was up to the task, winning by a half length in 1:17.80.

The winner is owned by Darley Stable and was the highest priced yearling by her sire, and was one of only four horses to bring at least $1 million, at the 2009 Keeneland September yearling sale. She is out of Strawberry Reason, winner of the Grade 3 Martha Washington S. In Step is a half-sister to Vindication, 2002 2-year-old champion and winner of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1); 2005 Risen Star S. (G3) winner Scipion; and Blackberry Road, who was graded stakes placed at two and three.

In Step was bred by Payson Stud. She earned $23,100 and is trained by Kiaran McLaughlin.

Mission Impazible game second in Grade 3 Mineshaft

Mission Impazible returned to Fair Grounds, the scene of his greatest triumph, to finish second by a head in the $125,000 Mineshaft Handicap (G3) on Feb. 19 (VIDEO). The 4-year-old son of Unbridled’s Song won last year’s Louisiana Derby (G2).

Mission Impazible has finished in the top three in seven of his eight lifetime starts. He was bred in Kentucky by Summer Wind Farm. Twin Creeks Racing, who owns the gray/roan colt, purchased him for $200,000 at the 2008 Keeneland yearling sale, where he was consigned by Taylor Made. Mission Impazible has earned $558,854 in his career.
