Embur’s Song made it 2-for-2 with a hand-ride victory at Woodbine on May 22 for the 3-year-old daughter of Unbridled’s Song. The bay filly was coming off a 13 1/4-length victory in her debut at Keeneland on April 17.
This time around Embur’s Song was just as impressive even if the margin of victory was somewhat less. Breaking like a shot out of the gate in her first start around two turns, she quickly opened up two lengths on the field and dictated terms down the backstretch of the 1 1/16-mile allowance race. She got a small challenge on the turn from Clear Lake, but shook off that foe with ease with jockey Chantal Sutherland barely moving. Embur’s Song came to the wire under wraps in a stellar 1:42 2/5, just one-fifth of a second off the track record. She earned a 98 Beyer Speed Figure – nearly matching the 99 earned from her smashing maiden win. The huge effort also caught the eye of TDN, which named her their latest “Rising Star”.
Fares Farms bought Embur’s Song at the 2008 Keeneland September yearling sale for $170,000. Out of the winning mare Embur Sunshine, Embur’s Song is a half-sister to the Canadian stakes winner Ten Flat.
Embur’s Song is trained by Todd Pletcher. Her record stands at 2-2-0-0, with earnings of $66,046. She was bred in Canada by Josham Farms, Ltd.
Unbridled’s Song currently ranks fifth on the 2010 North American sires earnings list, and is the second-leading sire in terms of graded stakes winners with four.
