In Japan, multi-millionairess La Verita won her third stakes of the season when the 4-year-old gray filly captured the one-mile Sparking Lady Cup by a decisive three lengths at Kawasaki Racecourse on July 7th. Now a five-time stakes winner overseas, La Verita has earned $2,252,875 in U.S. dollars, with a record of 19-8-2-2 for owner Koji Maeda.
Breaking from the 14-hole, La Verita – who is regarded by many as the top dirt distaffer in Japan – displayed good tactical speed before drawing off in the stretch and proving much the best. She was bred in Kentucky by Dell Ridge Farm, and originally sold for
$320,000 as a yearling at the Keeneland September Sale.
Unbridled’s Song now has seven stakes winners – five graded – and 19 stakes horses this year, with worldwide progeny earnings exceeding $5-million.
