Unbridled’s Song fillies putting up big numbers in 2010

Beyer Speed Figures are a time-honored way to measure a racehorse’s ability, and so far in 2010, a pair of fillies by Unbridled’s Song have put up some of the top numbers of the year.

Warbling has the highest Beyer, a 107, of any filly or mare for 2010. She earned the figure in her Mar. 14 victory in the $200,000 Inside Information (G2). The seven furlong race was her first stakes win, but she had been knocking on the door previously, finishing second in the Sugar Swirl S. (G3) and third in the Hurricanebertie S. (G3) earlier in the Gulfstream meet.

Taylor Made consigned Warbling to the 2007 Keeneland September yearling sale, where she sold for $260,000 to her  owner Joe Sutton.

Warbling is currently stabled at Churchill Downs, where she breezed four furlongs in a bullet :46.80 seconds on Apr. 19 in preparation for a stakes start at the Louisville track on Derby Week. She is trained by Eddie Kenneally.

Embur’s Song debuted at Keeneland on Apr. 17, and the 3-year-old bay filly simply ran away from a good field in a maiden special weight race ran at the Beard Course distance of about seven furlongs, earning a 99 Beyer Speed Figure while winning by 13 ¼ lengths. There are only four sophomore fillies with higher Beyer numbers in 2010.

The Todd Pletcher trainee had been in south Florida prior to her Keeneland tour-de-force. She is owned by Fares Farm, who purchased her at the 2008 Keeneland September yearling sale for $170,000.
