A pair of potential stars by Unbridled’s Song were on display Feb. 3 at Gulfstream Park, both winning with ease in very fast times. Unbridled’s Song, who is closing in on 100 stakes winners, began 2012 on an excellent note at the Keeneland January sale, where he was the leading sire by yearling average of $357,500.
The first winner came in the seventh race when New Money romped to a 11 1/4-length maiden special weight victory going five furlongs (VIDEO). The 3-year-old filly zipped the distance on the sloppy track in :57.27, one second off the track record. New Money is out of True Argument, who is a half sister 2005 Holy Bull S. (G3) winner and Kentucky Derby (G1) runner-up Closing Argument.
As impressive as New Money was, two races later Emcee toyed with a field of allowance foes to roll to a six length win and run his record to a perfect 2-for-2 (VIDEO). The 4-year-old Darley homebred clicked off the seven furlongs in 1:20.83, less than a half-second off the track record. The outstanding effort earned him a Beyer Speed Figure of 107, the highest number of any horse in America in 2012.
Emcee is a half-brother to the stakes winning filly Spring Party and European stakes-placed Baffled. Their dam, Surf Club, is a half-sister to multiple graded stakes winner Awesome Humor.
