Unbridled’s Song 2yo looks the part in Churchill allowance win

Regally-bred Gulfport turned in a sharp-looking allowance win at Churchill to give the gray son of Unbridled’s Song his second career victory in Saturday’s one-mile contest (VIDEO). The Taylor Made stallion, who will stand the 2013 season for $60,000, has eclipsed $5.2 million in progeny earnings with 10 stakes wins and six stakes winners.

Gulfport was in second for the long backstretch run, took over nearing the end of the turn, then was well-handled by Corey Lanerie to draw off late, getting the mile in 1:35.93 on a fast track. His record now stands at 2-1-1 in five starts, earning $86,660.

Gulfport is owned by Mike Rutherford, Mike Lauffer and Kinsman Stable. The latter is also his breeder. Gulfport is out of Dream Supreme, who earned just over $1 million in a brilliant career that included six graded stakes wins. She has proved just as valuable as a broodmare, producing 2007 Grade 1 Hopeful S. winner Majestic Warrior as well as listed winners Evolutionist and Crystal Current.

Trainer Dale Romans, acting as agent, bought Gulfport out of the 2011 Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select yearling sale, making the winning bid of $775,000, which was the fourth-highest price of the sale.
