Forestry’s 6-year-old son Southern Style notched his second stakes win of 2011 with game stretch run in the $50,000 Oak Hill S. July 16 at Evangeline Downs. The dark bay, owned and trained by Maynard Chatters, captured the Need For Speed S. on Apr. 29.
Forestry’s runners have earned more than $3.3 million this year. His six stakes winners are topped by Preakness (G1) winner Shackleford.
In the seven furlong Oak Hill, Southern Style stalked the pace in third before forging to the lead outside the furlong marker. At the end of a stretch-long duel, he prevailed by a head in 1:23.07, less than a second off the track record. With the win, Southern Style is now 12-1-7 in 29 starts, earning $272,520.
Southern Style was bred in Kentucky by Twin Creeks Farm. He is out of the stakes winning mare Lady Dixie, full brother to multiple Grade 2 winner Chimes Band.
