Thranduil scored a front-running victory over the sloppy going Friday at Gulfstream Park West, making the colt Mshawish’s eighth overall First-Crop winner and fourth in the past nine days.
Thranduil, who was making his debut in the 6 1/2-furlong maiden special weight contest, made his way to the front in the first 100 yards. He continued to lead through the first half-mile, and after dispatching several challengers at the top of the stretch, he pulled away late to come home a 2 3/4-length winner.
Purchased by Calumet Farm out of the 2018 Keeneland November sale, Thranduil was bred by the Mshawish Syndicate and Jeff, Teresa & Marilyn Little. The bay colt is out of the stakes-placed mare Thealka.
Taylor Made recently announced that Mshawish’s 2021 fee will be $7,500 S&N.
