Leading second crop sire Old Fashioned registered another impressive first-timer Friday at Fair Grounds when The Trunk Monkey overcame a slow start to win a six-furlong maiden special weight heat by a neck in a solid 1:10.30 (VIDEO).
The winner was bred in Pennsylvania by Hope Hill Farm and Thomas McGreevy and is owned by Rick Porter’s Fox Hill Farm. Porter acquired the colt from Taylor Made’s consignment at the 2012 Keeneland September Yearling sale with a winning bid of $110,000.
Old Fashioned, with Jan. 4 Old Hat S. (G3) winner Sweet Whiskey and a pair of maiden special weight winners in January, is second on this year’s Second Crop Sire list.
