Teaks North gets second stakes win of 2010

Three-year-old Teaks North was a two length winner in the $70,000 Big Brown on Oct. 30 at Monmouth Park, the second stakes win of the year for the son of Northern Afleet. The dark bay/brown won the Restoration S. over the Monmouth turf course on Aug. 28.

Northern Afleet is a top 20 sire on the North American general sire list, and has been especially good at producing repeat winners, where he ranks in the fifth spot in that category. He has seven stakes winners on the year, with three of those winning multiple added-money events.

Teaks North got a rail trip in the Big Brown, but not without a little drama. Stalking in third for the first half of the 1 1/16 miles, he shuffled back to sixth before getting through on the turning for home, when he accelerated quickly to the lead to separate himself from the field. The final time was 1:44.06 on a fast track.

Teaks North has now won four of six starts in 2010, earning $164,220. Bred in Florida by Brylynn Farm, Inc., Teaks North is owned by Jules Boutelle and trained by Justin Sallusto.

The dam of Teaks North has been an excellent producer. Besides Teaks North, she is the dam of Grade 2 winner Wooden Phone, and listed winners Chief Okie Dokie and Teak Totem.
