Strike It Rich became the latest stakes winner for sire Unbridled’s Song with a one-length victory in the $100,000 Little Silver S. at Monmouth Park on May 30. The Taylor Made stallion currently stands in fourth place on the 2010 General Sire List with progeny earnings of $3,051,820. His four graded winners on the year is good for second place among all sires.

In the Little Silver S., which went one mile on the turf course for 3-year-old fillies, Strike It Rich was sent off the 6-5 favorite off her sharp score in a turf allowance at Gulfstream Park in late April. Taken to the lead by Garrett Gomez immediately after the break, Strike it Rich turned back a challenge from eventual runner-up In the Rough after six furlongs in 1:09 3/5 en route to a final clocking of 1:33.32, less than a second off the track record.

Afterwards, Gomez said he and trainer Christophe Clement discussed the strategy change in the paddock (Strike It Rich normally races from off the pace). “Christophe told me that it didn’t look like there was a ton of pace in the race and he said not to worry about it if she ends up on the lead,” Gomez said.  “She broke well and we ended up on the front.  She was comfortable there and didn’t seem to mind being on the lead.  She gave a big effort and ran all the way to the wire.”

With the win, Strike it Rich pushed her career record to 3-0-1 from seven starts, with earnings of $95,755 for Waterville Lake Stable. Clement, as agent, purchased Strike It Rich for $350,000 in 2008 at the Fasig-Tipton Saratoga Select yearling sale. The big sale price reflects the quality of her dam Belle of Perintown, winner of the Grade 2 Silverbulletday S. and the Pocahontas S. Her only other foal to start is the filly Sumptuous, three-time stakes placed and a winner of $104,295.
