California Chrome completed his Dubai World Cup (G1) preparations with a very easy victory in Thursday’s Trans Gulf Electromechanical Trophy S. at Meydan, where the $10 million World Cup will be held one month from now.
The prohibitive 1-9 favorite ran to his odds as he stalked the pace three wide until taking over at the top of the stretch without Victor Espinoza asking him. California Chrome finished the 1 ¼-miles in 2:04.32 while winning by 2 ½-lengths.
Trainer Art Sherman said this race was a perfect prep, especially since it was at the World Cup’s 1 ¼-distance.
California Chrome, who is owned by Taylor Made, Perry Martin and a consortium of breeders, is now 11-3-1 in 20 starts.
