Sirocco Strike wins eventful Green Flash H. at Del Mar

Forestry’s Sirocco Strike wound up the winner of a four-horse blanket in Wednesday’s $90,000 Green Flash H. at Del Mar to give the 6-year-old his first stakes win. The winner was also the fourth in the last three days for his sire.

Sirocco Strike got an excellent ride from Julien Leparoux in the five furlong turf contest. Breaking from the rail, Leparoux let his horse settle in seventh while Distinctiv Passion flew threw an opening quarter of :21.46 seconds. Sirocco Strike began to pass horses straightening for home, then went three wide to take aim at the leader.

Distinctiv Passion was engaged by Strong Wind late, with the pacesetter bumping that one soundly. Meanwhile, Leparoux had Sirocco Strike in high gear, flying up to hit the wire a neck behind Distinctiv  Passion. After a stewards’ inquiry, Sirocco Strike was named the winner.

Sirocco Strike is a consistent 4-4-4 in 20 lifetime starts for his owners Edward Brown, Alan Klein and Phillip Lebherz. He has earned $232,876 to date. Out of the stakes-winning mare Wishful Splendor, Sirocco Strike is a half-brother to La Troienne S. (G2) and Indiana Oaks (G2) winner Juanita.
