Not This Time capped his leading Third-Crop Sire status of 2022 with the first graded stakes win for Sibelius in the $125,000 Mr. Prospector S. (G3) on New Year’s Eve at Gulfstream Park.
Four-year-old Sibelius is the seventh graded winner of the year for Not This Time, a list topped by Grade 1 winners Epicenter and Just One Time. With a year-ending total of $12,850,190 in progeny earnings, Not This Time was nearly $5 million ahead of his closest pursuer. Not This Time’s 2023 fee will be $135,000 S&N.
Sibelius, owned by Delia Nash and Jun H. Park, was away alertly in the seven-furlong Mr. Prospector, tracking Uncle Ernie though a half-mile in :44.47. He swooped to the lead just before entering the stretch and pulled away powerfully to win by 2 ¼-lengths in 1:23.04 on the fast main track.
Bred by Taylor Brothers Properties LLC, Pollock Farm, Patrick Payne et al, Sibelius is a half-brother to stakes-placed winners Paddock Pick and Dypsy. Saturday’s win upped his earnings to $443,889.
