Regally-bred Cross Traffic delivers at first asking

Cross Traffic got the green light in mid-stretch and the Unbridled’s Song colt drew off to a rousing 1 3/4-length maiden special weight victory Thursday at Gulfstream Park in his career bow. The gray colt got the 6 1/2-furlongs in a swift 1:15.79.

The winning time was just a little more than a second off the track record and scored a Beyer Speed Figure of 95, a number often posted by graded stakes winners.

In the past week alone, Unbridled’s Song has registered five winners, including the 3-year-old colt Will Take Charge in the $150,000 Smarty Jones S., putting the sophomore on the Kentucky Derby (G1) trail.

Cross Traffic, bred in Kentucky by Diamond A Racing Corp., is out of the top-class mare Stop Traffic. In a stellar career that saw her hit the board in 26 of 35 starts and earn $864,518, she won the Santa Monica H. (G1), Ballerina H. (G1) and six additional black-type events. She is the dam of five other winners, including Cross Traffic’s stakes-placed full brother Bianco Tartufo.

Taylor Made consigned and sold Cross Traffic at the 2010 Saratoga Select Yearling sale, where he was purchased by GoldMark Farm LLC, his current owner, for $300,000.
