“Professional” Midnight Storm colt scores debut MdSpWt victory

Electrostatic squeezed through a very narrow opening in midstretch and went on to break his maiden by 2 1/2-lengths Wednesday at Colonial Downs, in what was a very promising career debut for the 2-year-old son of Midnight Storm (WATCH RACE).

The winner was along the fence several lengths from the front for the first six furlongs, then began to make up ground willingly on the final turn. Stuck behind a wall of horses coming into the stretch, Electrostatic eventually came between horses in the two path and strode out powerfully to win the one-mile turf race in 1:35.93.

“He is a very nice individual,” said winning trainer Arnaud Delacour. “We liked him this winter, but the last three weeks he has really blossomed. He is a big horse and will continue to develop. We feel he has a very bright future.”

Out of the Cherokee Run mare Extra Sharp and bred by Susan Casner, Electrostatic is a half to multiple stakes winner Colonel Sharp, while his second dam is seven-time Grade I-winning multimillionaire Sharp Cat.

Electrostatic sold for $185,000 at the 2020 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky Select Yearling sale last September. He is owned by Mark Grier.
