A filly from the first crop of freshman sire Old Fashioned sped through an eighth of a mile in :09 4/5 March 7, the co-fastest time of the day, during the first of two under tack previews for the Ocala Breeders’ Sale Co.’s March selected sale of 2-year-olds in training March 12-13 in Ocala.
Cataloged as hip No. 164, is consigned by Niall Brennan, agent. Bred in Kentucky, the filly is produced from the stakes-placed Forestry mare Angel Island, who finished second in the 2006 Monmouth Park NATC Futurity. The filly’s second dam is stakes winner and multiple stakes-placed Sweeping, by End Sweep.
“She’s fast. She tipped her hand when we worked her over the surface last week,” said Brennan. “She prepped very nicely over the track, so we expected her to breeze well. She’s fast but she’s not built like a Quarter Horse. She has scope. She’s a nice, pretty filly but with a lot of length. She’s a natural runner.”
Old Fashioned, by Unbridled’s Song, proved his brilliance with a win in the nine furlong Remsen S. (G2) at two, then went on to win Southwest S. (G3) the following year. He is standing this year at Taylor Made for $8,000 LFS&N. He’s been well-received at auction to date, with the sales topper at the 2013 Barretts January Sale.
