Minks Aprise uncorked a huge rally in the final three furlongs of the $100,000 H.B.P.A. stakes Thursday at Presque Isle Downs, coming from last to first to win going away by 2 3/4-lengths.
The 4-year-old daughter of Northern Afleet, who has now started at eight different tracks in her 14 lifetime outings, with five wins, including the Camilla Urso S. earlier this season at Golden Gate Fields. Minks Aprise is one of Northern Afleet’s eight stakes winners this year, led of course by United Nations S. (G1) winner World Approval.
Not necessarily known as a deep closer, Minks Aprise nevertheless trailed the 12-horse field after breaking in air. Unhurried by jockey Mario Pino, the bay filly made a looping six-wide move on the turn and swept to the front at the top of the stretch, then drew off to win with authority (VIDEO).
Owned by KMN Racing LLC, Minks Aprise upped her record to 5-1-1 and has earned $192,477. A $70,000 purchase at the 2013 Keeneland September Yearling sale, Minks Aprise is the first foal to race out of Courtier, an unraced daughter of El Prado (IRE) who is closely related to multiple Grade 1 winners Turbulent Descent and Gorgeous.
