Northern Afleet filly brings 3rd highest price at Keeneland’s opening session

Negligee, a 4-year-old daughter of Northern Afleet, was the third-highest-priced horse sold during the Keeneland January horses of all ages auction’s opening session on Jan. 10, bringing $625,000. Negligee had her greatest triumph on the racetrack at Keeneland as well, winning the Grade 1 Alcibiades for 2-year-old fillies in 2009 for Sovereign Stable.

Northern Afleet has been a national Top
25 sire the past two years. In 2010, he was the sire of eight
individual stakes winners of 13 stakes, led by multiple Grade 1
winner Evening Jewel, who is an Eclipse Award finalist in the
3-year-old filly division.

Hill ‘n’ Dale Sales Agency, agent, consigned Negligee as a broodmare prospect. Fergus Galvin and Adrian Regan of Hunter Valley Farm purchased the filly for an unidentified client.

“These racing fillies are very hard to buy, and she was top-notch,” Regan told the BloodHorse. “She’s a mixture of everything you want. She’s the right package.”

Out of the stakes-winning Relaunch mare Naughty Notions, Negligee was the champion 2-year-old filly in Canada, where she finished second in the Ontario Debutante Stakes at Woodbine. Last year, the  filly was second in the in Edgewood S. at Churchill Downs and third in the Sands Point S. (G2)  over the Belmont Park turf. Overall, Negligee won two of her nine career races and earned $381,379.
