Northern Afleet’s War Story overcame early trouble to prevail by 2 ¾-lengths in a one-mile allowance contest Sunday at Fair Grounds, running the 2-year-old’s record to a perfect 2-for-2.
Northern Afleet, the sire of 10 domestic stakes winners and 36 stakes horses worldwide, has once again eclipsed the $5 million mark in progeny earnings in 2014. He will stand the 2015 season at Taylor Made for $7,500 stands and nurses.
War Story, breaking from post 2, got squeezed back twice in the opening quarter mile, but found a clear path three wide going into the final turn. He swept to the lead at the head of the lane, then pulled clear late to secure the win in 1:39.75 on the fast main track (VIDEO).
Owned by the partnership of Loooch Racing Stable Inc. and Chris Dunn, War Story has won both his starts by an identical margin. He won his debut Nov. 1 at Churchill Downs and has earned $48,600.
War Story is the second foal out of Belle Watling, whose first foal Draw Two has earned $219,140. He hails from the same female family as champions Epitome and Green Forest.
