Multiple GSW Old Fashioned sires first winner

Chicks Dig It became freshman sire Old Fashioned’s first winner when he scored a front-running victory in a $36,000 Maiden Special Weight heat at Presque Isle Downs on Sunday, July 14.

The speedy chestnut broke on top and cleared the field early down the backstretch. He was never headed throughout and proved best in the stretch of the 5 ½-furlong race, stopping the clock in 1:05.84 over the local main track. Owned and trained by Ron Potts, Chicks Dig It was bred in Indiana by The Elkstone Group LLC and hails from the stakes-placed Northern Spur (Ire) mare Titia.

An undefeated Eclipse finalist at two, Old Fashioned’s dominating wins as a juvenile included a 15 1/2-length allowance score followed by a 7 1/4-length romp in the Remsen S. (G2) at Aqueduct. The winter book favorite for the Kentucky Derby, Old Fashioned remained undefeated after winning the Southwest S. (G3) at Oaklawn in his 3-year-old debut. He was second in the Rebel S. (G2) and a courageous runner-up in the Arkansas Derby (G2) before retiring with earnings of $583,280.

By Unbridled’s Song, Old Fashioned is out of the graded stakes-winning Meadowlake mare Collect Call. He stands at Taylor Made Stallions in Nicholasville, KY as property of Rick Porter’s Fox Hill Farm. Old Fashioned’s 2013 fee was $8,000 stands and nurses.
