Mshawish 2yos score a pair of maiden special wins

Mshawish added two new first-crop winners on Wednesday when Hitch a Ride and Franz Josef scored maiden special weight victories at Delaware Park and Presque Isle Downs, respectively.

The Taylor Made stallion will have a chance to add to his winners’ total with a pair of maidens in Saturday at Gulfstream Park and Keeneland.

Hitch a Ride was in a battle with Tapit’s Girl right from the start of her six-furlong race. The two were right together until Hitch a Ride took over for good with three furlongs to run. Guns Blazing was her closest pursuer in the stretch, but never seriously threatened the winner, who was two lengths in front at the wire.

Hitch a Ride is owned by Rose Petal Stable and was bred by The Elkstone Group LLC. Her stakes-winning dam Orinoquia produced last year’s Iowa Derby winner Top Line Growth.

At Presque Isle, Franz Josef won his one-mile event in front-running style, taking the top spot by 1 1/4-lengths.

Franz Josef is owned by Novogratz Racing Stables and was bred by Mike Abraham. The dark bay colt’s prolific dam, the stakes winner Silent Emotion, has produced no less than ten winners, among them Mrs. Revere S. (G2) winner Emotional Kitten and three-time stakes winner Unspoken Word.
