Magnolia Midnight found the Colonial Downs main track to his liking with a dominating 7 1/4-length maiden special weight victory on Tuesday (WATCH RACE).
After a swift start, the Midnight Storm colt eased back just behind Swift Dancer, who led by a length after a quarter-mile. Magnolia Midnight ranged along side on the turn, taking over at will into the stretch, then drawing off under a hand ride to finish the 5 1/2-furlongs in 1:03.28.
Magnolia Midnight sold for $320,000 at this year’s OBS Spring 2-year-old sale to West Point Thoroughbreds, who co-owns the dark bay with Southern Wives Partners, Stable 71 and Titletown Racing. He was bred by Southern Wives and is the third foal out of Tex Appeal, sister to Grade 2 winner Strait From Texas.
Midnight Storm’s first crop includes winners from 4 1/2-furlongs to a mile and on both turf and dirt. His 2-year-old sales average in 2021 of $113,333 is more than 15 times his stud fee.
