La Verita, all-time leading earner for Unbridled’s Song

The 5-year-old mare La Verita racked up her ninth career stakes win March 2 in Japan, crossing the $3.33 million mark in earnings. The Kentucky-bred daughter of Unbridled’s Song is two-for-two in 2011 and has been based in Japan for her entire racing career.

La Verita’s latest stakes victory came in the listed Empress Hai S. for 4-year-old and up fillies and mares. The 4-5 favorite wound up winning by a half length in 2:15 3/5 over about 1 5/16 miles on a sloppy racetrack.

The victory raised La Verita’s record to 10-3-2 in 24 starts. The versatile mare has won at distances from seven furlongs up to her latest marathon score. Bred by Dell Ridge Farm, La Verita sold for $320,000 at the 2007 Keeneland September yearling sale to North Hills Management. She is out of Go Classic, who was stakes placed at two in her native Canada and is a half-sister to Canadian 2-year-old champion Hello Seattle.

Unbridled’s Song had a very good February in the United States, with four stakes horses in just a little over two weeks. The 18-year-old stallion has 88 lifetime stakes winners, including 13 Grade 1 performers. Only three active U.S. stallions have more G1 winners. His 21 stakes horses in 2010 included Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic (G1) winner Unrivaled Belle, his lifetime leading earner in the U.S.
