Inspired, a 5-year-old daughter of Unbridled’s Song, racked up her second straight turf sprint stakes win March 4 with a front-running one length win in the $70,000 Ladies Turf Sprint at Gulfstream Park (VIDEO). The chestnut filly posted her fifth victory in 15 career starts after shipping out of town for a similar score in the Pan Zareta S. at Fair Grounds on Jan. 21.

Though she was off just a beat slow, Inspired quickly recovered and had a length lead after the first eighth-mile. Clipping off the furlongs in 11 seconds a piece, none her nine foes could match the pace, and the winner hit the wire :55.41 on the firm course.

Said winning trainer Allen Iwinski, “When Johnny (jockey Velazquez) rode her for the first time here (at Gulfstream on Dec. 24, when she was fourth) we tried to rate her that day, but she didn’t have the lead until midway of the turn. Johnny said, ‘I had them. I think I should have let her go and run her own race.’ So we did that at the Fair Grounds and she just ran away from there. She’s a much better filly when you let her do her thing.”

Added Velazquez, “Not much you can say other than put her on the lead and let her go. The first time I was on her she was on the lead and I was fighting with her and she didn’t finish anywhere (fourth). Last time in Louisiana, I let her do her thing. I did the same thing today and I guess she proved me right.”

Owned and bred by Peter Blum, Inspired increased her career earnings to $226,385. Inspired is out of the stakes-placed mare Proposal, who a has also produced the stakes winners Silver City (a full brother to Inspired who accounted for the 2009 Dixieland S.), plus Initiation, winner of the Glorious Song S. and Dream Supreme H. winner Elope.
