Freshman sire Half Ours, by Unbridled’s Song, got his first career stakes winner Aug. 6 at Mountaineer Park with Backdoor Kenny’s resounding 5 1/4-length win in the $85,000 Mountaineer Juvenile S. Half Ours came into the day ranked third among all first-crop sires with six winners and eighth in progeny earnings.
Backdoor Kenny made all the running in the six furlong Juvenile. Setting a blistering pace of :21.26 seconds for the quarter mile and :44.16 for the half, the chestnut colt opened up a three length lead. He continued to pour it on in the stretch to finish as much the best in 1:10.92.
Already stakes placed at Prairie Meadows, Backdoor Kenny is now 2-0-1 in three starts with earnings of $74,140. He was bred in Kentucky by Ron Kirk and Poplar Hill Equine and sold for $85,000 at the OBS select 2-year-old sale this past March, where his current trainer, James DiVito, signed the ticket for his owner Doubledown Stables Inc.
