Graydar colt shines at Santa Anita

Lombo drew off in the final furlong to score a 3 1/2-length maiden special weight victory Jan. 20 at Santa Anita Park in the 6 1/2-furlong affair for 3-year-olds (VIDEO).

Lombo is the third maiden winner of the weekend for Graydar, who finished 2017 as a top-10 First-Crop Sire of winners. The Grade 1 winner is standing this year at Taylor Made Stallions for $7,500 live foal stands and nurses.

Coming out of the gate very swiftly under Kent Desormeaux, Lombo then eased back to let Show Time Rocket set the pace. The field tightened up on the turn, with Lombo three-wide in a line of four across the track. After some brushing at the top of the lane, Lombo powered away to win handily.

The winner is owned by Michael Lombardi and was bred in Kentucky by Twin Creeks Farm. The charcoal-gray Lombo is out of Burg Berg, a stakes winner and Grade 2-placed earner of $266,052.
