Graydar 3yos shine at Santa Anita and Oaklawn Park

Graydar’s second crop continues to turn in impressive performances, with two more maiden special weight winners on Feb. 25.

He now has 13 winners this year, leading all Second-Crop Sires standing in North America. The most accomplished this year is the 3-year-old colt Lombo, who broke his maiden Jan. 20 and came back just two weeks later to annex the $150,000 Robert B. Lewis S. (G3), also at Santa Anita Park.

Brooklyn Bites  was the first winner on Sunday for her sire. The 3-year-old filly won a six-furlong contest at Oaklawn Park by a neck, dueling the entire trip with Kalalou, while it was some nine lengths back to the rest of the field. The winner, who was making just her second start, is owned JRita Young Thoroughbreds and was bred by Wynnstay LLC.

At Santa Anita, Graycaster sauntered to a three-length win in front-running style [WATCH RACE]. The colt covered the 5 1/2-furlongs in 1:03.95 in his first start of 2018. Graycaster is owned in part by his trainer Jerry Hollendorfer, along with CTR Stables and Richard Robertson. Graycaster comes from the same family as multiple Grade 1 winner Peaks and Valleys and was bred by Nancy Shuford.
