Forestry veteran scores second straight stakes win

Homerun Berti took his second stakes in less than a month on Saturday when the son of Forestry captured the $50,000 KLAQ H. with a front-running 2 1/2-length victory in the 5 1/2-furlong contest at Sunland Park.

Homerun Berti took Zia Park’s $55,000 Lea County Sprint S. in similar style on Nov. 13. Never seriously threatened at any point of Saturday’s main track affair, Homerun Berti was up by as much as five lengths before being geared down late when the victory was in hand.

The winner, bred in Kentucky by Bertram Klein, has now won 13 of his 29 starts, amassing $348,970 in earnings. He is the son of the top-class mare Allamerican Bertie, a four-time graded stakes winner of nearly $800,000.

Always known for gettting versatile and long-lasting runners, Forestry’s 2013 stakes horses range from ages 2 through 8. The sire of millionaires Shackleford and Discreet Cat, Forestry will stand the 2014 season at Taylor Made for $8,000 LFS&N.
