Forestry will have two starters in the Nov. 5-6 Breeders’ Cup: Etched in the $5 million Classic (G1) and New Normal in the $1 million Juvenile Fillies Turf (G2). The pair represents the second and third Breeders’ Cup starters for Forestry; Discreet Cat was third in the 2007 Dirt Mile.
Etched, Forestry’s leading earner of 2010, got post 10 of 12 in the Classic, the last race, at 6:45 pm ET, on Saturday’s slate. The chestnut 5-year-old is two-for-two on the year, winning the Formal Gold S. on Sept. 12, then following that victory up with a hard-fought score in the Grade 2 Monmouth Cup on Oct. 9, where he beat Classic contender Musket Man.
Etched has won seven of nine lifetime starts, earning $587,586 for owner Godolphin Racing LLC. He certainly has a Breeders’ Cup pedigree; his dam Unbridled Elaine won the 2001 Distaff (G1). Etched was bred in Kentucky by Darley.
In Friday’s one-mile Juvenile Fillies Turf, which runs at 4:50 pm ET, New Normal will break from post 10 in the full field of 14. The Robert S. Evans homebred bay filly is two-for-three lifetime, with all of her starts coming over the Woodbine lawn. She broke her maiden going seven furlongs in late August, then came back to take the Grade 3 Natalma S., at one mile, on Sept. 18.
