A sloppy Saratoga main track was no problem as Maple Forest scored a 2 1/2-length victory in her debut on Aug. 5. The daughter of Forestry earned $30,000 for the victory in the five furlong maiden special weight sprint.
The win came in gate to wire fashion. She broke from the rail and was up a length after the first furlong, increased her margin around the turn and was four lengths to the good in mid-stretch, before easing up late to win in a final time of :58.47 seconds. Considering the track condition, she recorded a very respectable 82 Beyer Speed Figure.
The Kentucky bred filly is owned by her breeder Blue Heaven Farm, LLC. She is trained by Todd Pletcher.
Maple Forest figures to be a precocious type. Her dam Maple Syrple won the $166,000 Clarendon S. at Woodbine at age two, then came back next time out to be second in the Grade 1 Schuylerville S. at Saratoga, which coincidentally was also run over a sloppy surface.
