First mare checked in foal to Taylor Made Stallions’ Angel of Empire

Taylor Made stallion Angel of Empire, winner of the Arkansas Derby (G1) and a millionaire son of Eclipse Champion Classic Empire, has had his first mare checked in foal, the farm announced today.

Racing for Albaugh Family Stables, Angel of Empire competed exclusively in stakes at three. He captured the $1,250,000 Arkansas Derby (G1) at Oaklawn Park, winning that Kentucky Derby (G1) prep by a romping 4 ¼ lengths. He entered the Arkansas Derby off a decisive win in the $400,000 Risen Star S. (G2) at Fair Grounds in his graded stakes debut, defeating subsequent Kentucky Derby runner-up Two Phil’s.

Sent off as the race favorite in the 149th Kentucky Derby, Angel of Empire finished a fast-closing third behind Mage and Two Phil’s, earning a career-best 104 Beyer Speed Figure in the first leg of the Triple Crown. All told, Angel of Empire hit the board in 7-of-9 lifetime starts, banking more than $1.4 million.
