Taylor Made stallion Dr. Schivel, a Grade 1 winner at two and three and a millionaire son of Violence, sired his first reported foal on Monday, Jan. 27 at Drion Thoroughbreds. The handsome colt is out of the Distorted Humor mare Jocosity, and he was bred by Sarah Hinkle, Drion Thoroughbreds, and Alistair Roden. Jocosity is a half-sister to stakes winner Pay for Peace and is produced from the stakes-placed mare Dancing Bay, a half-sister to multiple stakes winner and graded stakes-placed Heyahowdy.

“He has good bone, scope, and size,” said Alistair Roden of the colt. “We’re definitely breeding a few more mares this year to Dr. Schivel.”

Ranking among the top sprinters of his era, Dr. Schivel burst onto the scene as a 2-year-old. After a romping victory in a Del Mar maiden special weight, Dr. Schivel won the Del Mar Futurity (G1) in effortless fashion. At three, he registered a tenacious victory against older horses in the Bing Crosby S. (G1) at Del Mar. Later that year, he just missed winning the $2 million Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1), finishing second in a photo finish in a final time of 1:08.49 for six furlongs and finishing in front of 2021 Champion Male Sprinter and Grade 1 winner Jackie’s Warrior. In addition to his Grade 1 successes, Dr. Schivel is a two-time winner of the Santa Anita Sprint Championship S. (G2).

Campaigned by Red Baron’s Barn, Rancho Temescal, Reeves Thoroughbred Racing, and William A. Branch, and trained by Mark Glatt, Dr. Schivel banked more than $1.3 million in a sensational career.  All told, he won seven starts and finished in the money in 12-of-15 outings, defeating 13 Grade 1 winners throughout his racing career. The son of Violence is out of Lil Nugget—a half-sister to multiple Grade 1 winner and millionaire Ultra Blend. Dr. Schivel’s first two dams are both Grade 1 producers.
