Forestry’s latest stakes winner came courtesy of 5-year-old veteran Etched in the $75,000 Formal Gold S. on Sept. 12 at Monmouth Park. This was the first race of 2010 for Etched, who last started in the Clark H. (G2) in Nov. 2009 at Churchill Downs.
Day-long rains rendered the Monmouth surface sloppy for the Formal Gold. Etched, trained by Kiaran McLaughlin, was sent off at 3-5 and took up a stalking position in second behind Chirac. Jockey Alan Garcia commenced his move on the turn, dueling with the pacesetter until pulling away in the final furlong for a one-length margin.
Owned and bred by Darley Stable, Etched scored his sixth win in eight lifetime starts. He has earned $407,586, with wins in the Meadowlands Cup (G2) and Nashua (G3). Etched is out of the Breeders’ Cup Distaff (G1) winner Unbridled Elaine, who also had success at Monmouth, winning the Grade 2 Monmouth Park Oaks.
