Eskendereya up for 3-year-old championship honors

Eskendereya was named as a finalist for 3-year-old championship honors on Jan. 6, when the National Thoroughbred Racing Association, Daily Racing Form, and the National Turf Writers And Broadcasters  announced the nominees for 2010 Eclipse Awards. Winners will be announced at the 40th annual Eclipse Awards dinner ceremony on Monday, Jan. 17, at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach in Miami Beach, Fla.

Eskendereya, who will stand at Taylor Made Stallions beginning 2011, was undefeated at age 3, winning the Grade I Wood Memorial Stakes by 9-3/4 lengths and the Fountain of Youth Stakes by 8-1/2 lengths, the largest winning margin for that race since Spectacular Bid in 1979. His Beyer Speed Figure of 109 in the Wood Memorial was the highest number for any 3-year-old route race in 2010.

Owned by Jess Jackson’s Stonestreet Thoroughbred Holdings, Eskendereya’s stud fee will be $30,000 live foal, stands and nurses.
