Freshman sire Eskendereya bagged two new winners on Friday, both colts in maiden special weight company, to raise his total to five from his first crop.
Let Us Be Glad got his victory going 1 mile and 70 yards at Louisiana Downs in his second lifetime start and first on the main track following his turf debut. Winning as he pleased by eight lengths, Let Us Be Glad is trained by Patrick Devereux for his owner/breeder Couteau Grove Farms. The colt is out of the Irish mare Matchoftheday, who hails from the same family as champion 2-year-old filly Pleasant Stage and graded stakes winners Colonial Play and Stage Colony.
Gambler’s Roll had a bit tougher time in his 5 ½-furlong tussle at Los Alamitos, but prevailed by a half-length in his career debut. The chestnut Florida bred is the first foal out of the multiple stakes-placed Edgewise. Queen Bee Racing, who co-owns with Mark Gorman and Sterling Racing, purchased the colt for $75,000 out of the OBS 2-year-old in Training sale in April.
