Cara’s Time became the 12th stakes winner of 2024 for Not This Time on Sunday afternoon at Aqueduct with a hard-fought effort in the $150,000 Iroquois S.
The 3-year-old filly, who won the Joseph A. Gimma S. over this same surface some 13 months ago, is a very good 4-3-1 in 12 lifetime starts and has earned $346,850.
After hopping at the break, Cara’s Time found herself last in the field of seven. She quickly made up ground and moved into third after a quarter-mile. She held her spot while three-wide on the turn, then took the lead turning for home. Captainsdaughter ranged up on the outside and had her nose in front for a few strides, but Cara’s Time would not be denied, winning by a head in 1:17.13 for the 6 ½-furlongs on a fast track.
“I thought we were going to be on the lead fighting it out, but [after hopping at the start] the jock did a terrific job,” said trainer Mitchell Friedman of rider Dylan Davis. “She was very game. She dug in. She really likes to go head-and-head with horses. If she comes out of the gate and goes head-and-head down the backside, it doesn’t matter–that’s what she likes. She likes to be next to horses and fight it out.”
Cara’s Time is owned by Richard Greeley, who purchased her for $175,000 out of the 2022 Fasig-Tipton New York Bred Preferred Yearlings sale. The gray/roan filly was bred by Stephen Crestani, Jr.
Not This Time, whose progeny earnings are over $11 million thus far this year, will stand for $175,000 S&N in 2025.
