Not This Time chalked up his 11th stakes winner of 2023 on Sunday at Aqueduct when Cara’s Time scored a front-running victory in the $125,000 Joseph Gimma S.
The 2-year-old filly was making her third lifetime start in the seven-furlong contest. She went right to the front from her inside post and was pressed through the first three furlongs by My Shea D Lady. Cara’s Time dispensed her foes at the top of the stretch and was unthreatened the rest of the way, winning by 1 ½-lengths in 1:23.28 over the sloppy going.
Said trainer Mitchell Friedman, “She didn’t run good last time, but I knew she had a good excuse. I put the blinkers on her and it made her a little worse. I thought the blinkers would help with all of that and she worked well with them, but we took them off and [hoped] she would stay focused, which she did today.”
Cara’s Time races for Richard Greeley and was bred by Stephen Crestani, Jr. The winner’s dam Zindra is a half-sister to multiple stakes-placed Bahia Beach, who is the dam Next, another son of Not This Time who won Saturday’s Greenwood Cup S. (G3) by 25 lengths.
