California Chrome tops Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) entries

California Chrome, racing’s all-time leading money earner, was one of 14 horses pre-entered for this year’s Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) to be run Saturday, Nov. 5 at Santa Anita Park. The entries in the 1 1/4-mile test include five horses cross-entered in other Breeders’ Cup races.

California Chrome, who will join the Taylor Made stallion roster upon his retirement, will try to finish off what has so far been a perfect 2016 with wins in the Dubai World Cup, Pacific Classic and Awesome Again S., all Grade 1 events, as well as Grade 2 races San Diego H. and San Pasqual S.

Besides California Chrome, the 2016 Classic features runaway Travers S. (G1) winner Arrogate, last year’s Classic runner-up Effinex, the brilliant filly Found (IRE), recent winner of the Arc de Triomphe (G1), multiple Grade 1 winner Frosted, Arrogate’s stablemate Hoppertunity, winner of this year’s Jockey Club Gold Cup (G1), and 2016 Kentucky Derby (G1) and Preakness S. (G1) winner Nyquist.

With 15 wins in 24 races, California Chrome has earned $13,432,650 to date. He’ll be ridden in the Classic by regular jockey Victor Espinoza. Official post positions will be drawn Monday, Oct. 31

The $6 million Classic will be broadcast live on NBC from 8-9 p.m., with a post time of 8:35 p.m.
