California Chrome’s second of two offerings through the ring at the Keeneland September Yearling sale brought a winning bid of $200,000 during Monday’s opening session of the marathon auction.
Capitoal System Co. Ltd. was the winning bidder on hip No. 97, consigned by Taylor Made Sales Agency. The chestnut filly is out of the Forestry mare Somethingaboutbetty, a four-time stakes winner who is the dam of the Grade 2-placed 2-year-old Dewey Square.
Early in the session hip No. 50, also consigned by Taylor Made, went to Shadai Farm for $180,000. The dark bay filly is out of Right There, a stakes winner and Grade 1-placed half-sister to graded stakes winner Super Freaky. The subject filly’s third dam Bonnie Poker is the dam of Hall of Famer Silver Charm.
California Chrome has 57 First-Crop yearlings remaining lots in the auction, which runs through Sept. 21.
