Northern Afleet’s Belle of the Fleet dominated a 2-year-old filly maiden special weight contest Sept. 2 at Del Mar, cruising to a front-running 4 1/4-length score.
An international sire with 10 stakes winners to date in 2013, Northern Afleet’s runners have earned $2.3 million this year.
The winner left little doubt who was the best in the 5 1/2-furlong affair, setting a measured pace for the first three furlongs, then shaking free to get the distance in 1:03.31, less than a second off the track record.
Belle of the Fleet, bred in Kentucky by her owners Thomas Traver and Priscilla Webb, was an unlucky second in her debut two weeks ago, also at Del Mar.
