Taylor Made Stallions’ Instagrand sired his first winner when Baytown Boo Boo led gate to wire in a 4 ½-furlong maiden special weight at Horseshoe Indianapolis on Thursday, May 9.
Owned by McEntee Racing and trained by Paul McEntee, Baytown Boo Boo was sent off as the odds-on choice. The bay colt broke alertly from the rail under Agustin Gomez and contended for the early lead. Pressured throughout by Special Creed, Baytown Boo Boo shook clear at the sixteenth pole and held his fully extended rival at bay late to score by a half-length in :53.19 over a wet-fast track.
Bred in Kentucky by OXO Equine, Baytown Boo Boo is out of the winning Proud Citizen mare Profound Legacy, a full sister to Grade 1 winner Believe You Can, winner of the 2012 Kentucky Oaks (G1) and an earner of $1,280,324.
Instagrand, a dominating son of perennial leading sire Into Mischief, won the 2018 Best Pal S. (G2) at Del Mar by 10 ¼ lengths in just his second career start. Undefeated at two, Instagrand was named a TDN Rising Star after debuting a 10-length maiden special weight winner, running five furlongs in :56 flat and stopping the clock just .32 of a second off the Los Alamitos track record.
A $1.2 million Fasig-Tipton Gulfstream sale topper after breezing in :10 flat, Instagrand followed up his sensational juvenile season by placing in a pair of key Kentucky Derby preps at three. He placed in the Gotham S. (G3) at Aqueduct and set the pace in the Santa Anita Derby (G1) in his two-turn debut, finishing just behind Roadster and Champion 2-Year-Old and Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (G1) winner Game Winner. Instagrand is produced from the winning Lawyer Ron mare Assets of War and is from the immediate family of Grade 1 winners Irish Smoke and Book Review.
First-crop 2-year-olds by Instagrand have proved popular in the auction ring this season. He has been represented by a $250,000 filly now named Troubler who was bought at the OBS March Sale by Deuce Greathouse for Robert Masterson, and a $150,000 filly acquired by G. Chris Coleman at the OBS Spring Sale in April.
Instagrand stands for $7,500 S&N. For more information on Instagrand, contact Travis White at (859) 396-3508, or Brock Martin at (270) 498-3722, or visit www.taylormadestallions.com.
