Silver City, a 4-year-old son of Unbridled’s Song, set himself up for future stakes starts with a triumphant return to the races in 2010 in sharp score in a third-level allowance race at Fair Grounds on New Orleans on Mar. 6.
Silver City had been away from the racetrack since last April, when he was fifth in the Derby Trial (G3) at Churchill Downs. Prior to that, 2009 had been a very good year for him, with a win in the Dixieland S. and a runner-up finish to Old Fashioned, who now stands at Taylor Made, in the Southwest S. (G3).
In the race at the Fair Grounds, Silver City stopped the timer in 1:09 1/5 seconds, just one second off the track record. He earner a career-best 101 Beyer Speed Figure for the effort.
Silver City is owner by Clarence Scharbauer, Jr., who purchase the gray or roan colt for $700,000 at the 2007 Keeneland September yearling sale. The colt has a record of 4-1-1 in eight starts.
