Northern Afleet’s son Blue Sailor left little doubt with a gate-to-wire, three-length victory in the Tony Gatto Dream Big S. at Atlantic City Race Course on Apr. 24. The five-furlong turf event was the third stakes win in the six-year-old veteran’s career.
Blue Sailor went right to the front of the six horse field, getting two lengths on his foes in the first eighth-mile. He widened his lead on the turn, and when asked by jockey Harry Vega at the top of the lane, he sprinted four lengths clear. Vega kept his mount to the task, stopping the clock in :55 1/5 seconds, equaling the track record.
Blue Sailor has now won turf stakes at Atlantic City, Meadowlands, and Delaware Park. In a career that has spanned 35 races, he has racked up an impressive 13-7-3 record, with earnings of $364,566. He is owned by Robert Gorsuch and Fern Kreis, and trained by Howard Wolfendale.
