Northern Afleet sires 34th stakes winner

Teaks North made the most of his stakes debut with a one-length score in the $100,000 Restoration S. Aug. 28 at Monmouth Park. The 3-year-old son of Northern Afleet won his second straight over the Monmouth lawn, with the Restoration win coming on the heels of an allowance win on Aug. 1.

Teaks North was among horses in fourth place for the first half-mile of the nine-furlong race over firm ground. Coming three wide into the lane, he split horses to go to the front to prevail in an excellent 1:46.53, missing the track record by four-fifths of a second to earn a lifetime-best Beyer Speed Figure of 96.

Jockey Jose Valdivia, Jr. described his winning trip afterwards. “I couldn’t have asked for a better trip,” said Valdivia.  “[He] got me in a great spot. He was very game when we hit the lane and the second and third-place finishers (Beau Choix and Lonesome Street) came at him, but he prevailed. He got the mile and an eighth distance and could maybe even go further.”

The dark bay or brown is now 3-1-0 in seven starts, earning $118,900. Bred in Florida by Brylynn Farm, Inc., Teaks North is owned by Jules Boutelle and trained by Justin Sallusto.

The 3-year-old Evening Jewel is the leading earner on the year for Northern Afleet, who now has seven stakes winners for the year.  His 108 winners and 47 repeat winners both rank in the top 10 among all sires in North America.
