Aegean takes Churchill’s Dream Supreme

Aegean gamed out a three-quarter length victory in the Dream Supreme S., part of the Breeders’ Cup undercard at Churchill Downs on Nov. 6. (Watch the Dream Supreme video replay.)

A 3-year-old filly by Taylor Made sire Northern Afleet, Aegean was always forwardly placed in the six furlong Dream Supreme. She dueled for the top spot with Rapport for virtually the entire race, and it wasn’t until inside the sixteenth pole that she was able to stick her head in front, going on to win by three-quarters of a length in 1:09.56, which was less than a second slower than the Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1) run later in the day.

The Dream Supreme was the second career stakes win for Aegean, who took the Kentucky Juvenile (G3), also at Churchill Downs, in April, 2009. She is 4-0-2 in 11 starts, with earnings of $217,705 for owner Steven Michael Bell. She was bred in Florida by Vegso Racing Stable.

Northern Afleet has 122 winners and 58 repeat winners, both rank in the top 12 on the North American general sire list for 2010. He has eight black-type winners on the year, topped by two-time Grade 1 winner Evening Jewel, who was also third in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint (G1) on Nov. 5.
