Breeders’ Cup champ Unrivaled Belle nominated for 2010 Eclipse

Unbridled’s Song’s daughter Unrivaled Belle was named one of the finalists for the 2010 Eclipse Award for the Older Filly and Mare division. The nominees were announced on Jan. 6, and winners will be revealed at the 40th annual Eclipse Awards dinner ceremony on Monday, Jan. 17, at the Fontainebleau Miami Beach in Miami Beach, Fla.

Unrivaled Belle capped off a great 2010 with her best performance of the year in the Breeders’ Cup Ladies’ Classic (G1) with a 1 3/4-lengths victory in the $2 million race under the lights at Churchill Downs on Nov. 5.

Prior to the Breeders’ Cup, Unrivaled Belle had already had a very good year, going 2-3-0 in six starts, with a win over 2009 Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra in the Grade 2 La Troienne at Churchill Downs on Apr. 30 and the Grade 3 Rampart H. at Gulfstream Park on Mar. 20. She was also second in the Beldame S., and Ogden Phipps and Ruffian Handicaps, all Grade 1 events.

Owners Peter Vegso and Gary Seidler purchased Unrivaled Belle at the 2007 Keeneland September yearling sale for $260,000. She is out of Queenie Belle, winner of the Grade 2 Lady’s Secret Handicap.
