Regally-bred Ultimate X. shows his class first time out

Ultimate X., a 3-year-old colt by Unbridled’s Song, took to the muddy surface at Parx on Feb. 28 to register a handy three-quarter length win going a mile in his first career start. The gray/roan is the first foal out of Smokey Glacken, who won stakes in all four years she raced and earned $656,960.

A Mercedes Stable LLC homebred, Ultimate X. was never more than a couple lengths off the lead in the third spot for the majority of the trip. He made his move in the stretch, getting the lead at the furlong marker and went on to win with a determined effort.

Smokey Glacken is the daughter of another Taylor Made Stallion, Forestry. After a brilliant career, over which she compiled a 10-3-3 record in 19 starts, Smokey Glacken sold for $1.35 million at the 2006 Fasig-Tipton November Sale. The now 10-year-old mare won or place in 14 stakes; her graded wins came in the Valley Stream S. (G3) at two, Floral Park H. (G3) at three, and the Distaff Breeders’ Cup H. (G2), First Lady H. (G3), and Hurricane Bertie H. (G3), all at five. Smokey Glacken is a half-sister to 1997 Sprint Champion Smoke Glacken

Kentucky bred Ultimate X., who earned $27,000 for the victory, is trained by Anthony Dutrow.
