Ravi’s Song racked up her second consecutive stakes win at the 2011 Fair Grounds meet, coming from off the pace once again to roll to a 1 1/2-length victory in the $100,000 New Orleans Ladies S. on March 12 (VIDEO). The 5-year-old daughter of Unbridled’s Song won the Pelleteri S. over the same surface last month.
Ravi’s Song is the leading earner in North America of 2011 for Ravi’s Song and is one of five stakes horses this year for the Taylor Made stallion.
The 1 1/16 mile New Orleans didn’t set up ideally for the stretch-running 5-year-old mare. She was in sixth after six furlongs in a slow 1:14.10. Despite the dawdling pace up front, she weaved her way between horses to strike the front at the sixteenth pole and went on to win by 1 1/2-lengths, with Corey Lanerie easing her up at the wire. The final time was 1:44.64.
“I was a little concerned because they were going so slow up front,” said Lanerie, “but at the half-mile pole the race started to pick up and I knew I had plenty of horse left.”
Kentucky bred Ravi’s Song is relatively lightly raced for a 5-year-old, with a 6-2-1 record in 12 starts, earning $258,173 for owner/breeder Mrs. Yoshio Fujita. Fujita also campaigned the dam of Ravi’s Song, the excellent race mare Lu Ravi. She finished in the top 3 in 22 of 26 starts, earning more than $1.8 million, winning nine stakes, including five graded races.
